Everything you need to know

The three different report styles are designed for different needs. The snapshot report is best when you need a concise overview of need in one place and want something clear and usable quickly – it provides ‘headline’ statistics about your area of focus and two benchmark areas.

The focused report is better when you already know the priorities you want to explore and need more depth on a selected set of themes.

The comprehensive report is the right choice when you want the fullest picture possible, offering a report containing all the themes available. A comprehensive report is designed for strategy, full area reviews or bigger funding cases where you need to show that you have looked across the whole context rather than a few issues in isolation.

Once you have chosen your area, selected your options and completed checkout, your OCSI On Demand report will be available straight away online, with downloadable files ready to use.

If you have any issues at all, you can contact us for support at: support@ocsi.co.uk

Yes. The reports are designed to be used, not just read. They combine charts, tables and plain-English commentary with cited evidence, and the downloadable Word version makes it easier to adapt the material for your own applications, papers and presentations.

We are happy for screenshots of the outputs to be used too, we just ask that you credit Local Insight/OCSI on the page.

The reports are built using trusted public data from official sources such as ONS, DWP, the Census and other recognised national datasets, with sources clearly referenced within the Appendix – so you can see where the evidence comes from.

OCSI On Demand reports can be produced instantly for a range of official boundaries in England, Scotland and Wales, including:

  • Local Authority Districts
  • Westminster Parliamentary
  • Constituencies
  • Electoral Wards
  • Statistical geographies (LSOAs / MSOAs)

You can also combine supported area types within the report builder to create a single area of interest. For example, if the area you want to analyse is made up of several wards or neighbourhood geographies, you can group these together into one report area.

If you need something more bespoke, such as postcodes, defining your own area or a geography not currently supported in the builder, please get in touch and we can advise on the most suitable option: general@ocsi.co.uk

No. OCSI On Demand is designed for people who need reliable local evidence quickly, but do not have the time or specialist capacity to pull datasets together and interpret them from scratch.

The reports do the heavy lifting for you, so you can get to the point faster: understanding the story in your area, explaining it clearly and using it confidently in bids, board papers or planning discussions.

Benchmarks help put your chosen area into context. Instead of looking at one place on its own, you can compare it with two other areas to show whether local need looks higher, lower or broadly similar against a wider reference point. You’ll need to choose two benchmark areas, alongside your area of interest, when creating your report.

In most cases, the most useful benchmarks are a larger area that your community sits within (like a local authority, county or country), a nearby comparator or another place your board, funders or partners already recognise.

Yes. On Demand is built to provide local context quickly, but it is not the limit of what’s offered by OCSI. Contact us with details around the challenges you’re facing, and we’ll share suggested solutions that best fit your needs.

This is a one-off purchase, not a subscription. That makes it a good fit when you have a specific and immediate need, such as a funding application, trustee paper, service review or strategy discussion, and you do not need a full platform.

If you need to do this regularly across multiple places or want ongoing self-service analysis for your team, that is usually the point where our place-based data insight platform Local Insight becomes the better fit.

OCSI On Demand is a simple, low-cost way to access robust data and insights quickly, making it a great entry point to working with us.

It’s designed for when you need clear evidence without the time, cost or commitment of a larger project. You get high-quality, ready-to-use analysis without needing to gather the evidence yourself or commission bespoke work.

Local Insight is better suited to organisations that need ongoing access to data, repeated comparisons, mapping and the ability to explore the data themselves over time.

Our bespoke consultancy services are the right choice for more complex or strategic questions that require tailored analysis, deeper interpretation or a more collaborative approach.
