David’s main research interests are in relation to poverty, deprivation and inequality. He is Director and Senior Research Fellow at two not-for-profit research institutes: Southern African Social Policy Research Insights which focuses on social policy issues in South and Southern Africa, and DEPRIVATION.ORG which focuses on social policy issues in the rest of the world. Prior to these positions he was Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Social Policy and Intervention at the University of Oxford, where he was Deputy Director of the Social Disadvantage Research Centre and the Centre for the Analysis of South African Social Policy. David has been an independent academic advisor to a number of government departments on research and data strategies.
