Commitment to Achieving Net Zero

Oxford Consultants for Social Inclusion Ltd (OCSI) is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

As a specialist research, data analytics and software organisation, OCSI recognises its responsibility to minimise the environmental impact of its operations and to support the UK Government’s transition to a low-carbon economy. We are committed to measuring, monitoring and reducing emissions arising from our business activities and to continuously improving our environmental performance over time.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any additional carbon reduction measures. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Baseline Year: 2025

Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions Calculations

Financial Year 2025 represents the first year in which OCSI has prepared a Carbon Reduction Plan in accordance with PPN 006 requirements.

OCSI operates primarily as a provider of research, analytical, data and software services. The majority of our work is delivered digitally, with limited requirements for physical infrastructure, transportation or operational activities that generate significant greenhouse gas emissions.

OCSI occupies serviced office accommodation at Plus X Innovation. Utility costs are included within the service agreement and OCSI does not have direct access to metered electricity or gas consumption data attributable to its specific office space. OCSI will continue to engage with its accommodation provider to explore opportunities to obtain more detailed environmental information for future reporting periods.

OCSI does not own or lease any vehicles.

The majority of employees work remotely, and those employees who attend the office typically travel by walking or public transport. No employees routinely commute by private car.

As this is OCSI’s first Carbon Reduction Plan, the baseline year and current reporting year are the same.

Baseline Year Emissions

Scope 3 (Included Sources)To be established through improved data collection
Total EmissionsBaseline established in 2025

Scope 1

0 tCO₂e

Notes:

  • OCSI does not own or lease company vehicles.
  • OCSI does not directly control gas combustion or other direct emission sources.

Scope 2

Emissions associated with purchased electricity, heating and cooling are currently difficult to quantify accurately because OCSI occupies serviced office accommodation and does not receive separately metered energy consumption data.

OCSI will seek to improve the accuracy of Scope 2 reporting through engagement with its accommodation provider and through future collection of building-level sustainability information where available.

Scope 3 (Included Sources)

The primary Scope 3 emission sources relevant to OCSI are expected to include:

  • Business travel.
  • Employee commuting.
  • Home working.
  • Purchased goods and services.

Business travel is generally limited and, where possible, undertaken by rail or public transport.

Employee commuting emissions are relatively low due to a predominantly remote and hybrid working model, with no routine commuting by private vehicle.

OCSI will continue to improve the measurement and reporting of Scope 3 emissions in future reporting periods.

Emissions Reduction Targets

To support progress towards Net Zero emissions by 2050, OCSI has adopted the following objectives:

  • Establish a robust baseline for Scope 2 and relevant Scope 3 emissions by improving environmental data collection and monitoring.
  • Reduce operational greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030 against the 2025 baseline.
  • Maintain and support remote and hybrid working arrangements where operationally appropriate.
  • Minimise business travel and prioritise lower-carbon travel options, including rail and public transport.
  • Encourage environmentally responsible procurement and supplier engagement.
  • Review and update carbon reduction targets periodically as improved emissions data becomes available.

Carbon Reduction Projects

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

The following measures are already in place and contribute to reducing OCSI’s carbon footprint:

  • Adoption of flexible and hybrid working arrangements.
  • Extensive use of remote meetings, collaboration tools and digital project delivery.
  • Limited business travel requirements due to digital-first service delivery.
  • Use of public transport and active travel for office attendance.
  • Digital document management and cloud-based working practices, reducing paper consumption and physical resource use.
  • OCSI is committed to supporting the sustainable travel of its employees to and from work. OCSI has in place Bike Loan and Season Ticket loan schemes to encourage the use of public transport and bicycles, to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from work-related travel.

Future Carbon Reduction Initiatives

Over the next five years OCSI intends to:

  • Improve collection and monitoring of emissions data, particularly for Scope 2 and Scope 3 categories.
  • Engage with Plus X Innovation regarding building sustainability initiatives and available environmental performance data.
  • Continue to reduce unnecessary travel through remote collaboration technologies.
  • Prioritise rail and public transport over higher-carbon travel options where travel is necessary.
  • Review procurement processes to encourage consideration of environmental impacts when selecting suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Encourage suppliers and delivery partners to adopt carbon reduction policies and environmental management practices.
  • Promote staff awareness of sustainable working practices and low-carbon travel options.
  • Review opportunities to further reduce emissions associated with office operations, home working and digital infrastructure.
