Want to use your technical skills to make a difference? This is an opportunity to help public and community organisations make better decisions and improve services, by working on projects at the cutting-edge of technology, open data and public services.
You will be using technology to take our data and analysis out to a wider audience – improving how we visualise data using Google maps and other online tools, extending our in-house databases and reporting tools, playing with data APIs and user interfaces, and lots more. You’ll need to be happy learning and applying new things at speed, and able to juggle tasks and project deadlines.
OCSI work with public and community organisations to improve services. We turn complex datasets into engaging information and accessible analysis for communities and decision-makers. We are a social research “spin-out” consultancy from the University of Oxford, and have worked with more than 100 organisations to improve their evidence-base to deliver better services.
Based in central Brighton, we work with clients around the UK and internationally. For more about OCSI and our projects, see www.ocsi.co.uk and @ocsi_uk.
You will need to have a fair amount of programming time under your belt, for example via a relevant degree, job or personal projects. There aren’t any specific languages, databases or technologies that you must have – however knowing some (or all) of the things listed below would be a bonus.
But we’re not just looking for a coder. You will need to think creatively to improve our technologies for using and presenting data. You’ll also be able to understand user needs and problems, and plan internal and client projects with the OCSI team.
We’re certainly not expecting you to know all of these, but some would most definitely be an advantage.
