We are delighted to announce that, following a competitive tender process, we have been commissioned to update the English Indices of Deprivation alongside Deprivation.org on behalf of the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC).

This marks the third consecutive iteration of the indices we are (co)leading on. We are proud to play a central role in the continued development of the Indices of Deprivation.

The project seeks to review, update, enhance and develop the English Indices of Deprivation from its most recent release in 2019, including insights gathered through the 2022 user consultation.

This iteration will also include collaboration with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) to improve how deprivation in rural areas can be measured using small area administrative data.

The provisional release date is currently late 2025. To stay informed and receive updates about the indices over the course of the project, we encourage you to subscribe to our Indices of Deprivation mailing list. Additionally, you can sign up for DLUHC’s newsletter by emailing their team at Indices.Deprivation@levellingup.gov.uk.
