District

Definition

A district is a mid-tier local government division in England, the next level up from Parish councils, typically forming part of a county council area or existing as a unitary authority. Districts include metropolitan districts, non-metropolitan districts, and London boroughs, each with distinct governance structures. District councils oversee local services such as planning, housing, waste collection, and environmental health.
