GeoJSON

Definition

GeoJSON is a lightweight format for encoding geographic data using JSON (JavaScript Object Notation). It is commonly used in web mapping applications, GIS platforms, and spatial databases. GeoJSON can represent points, lines, polygons, and multi-geometries, making it useful for showing administrative boundaries, postcode areas, and deprivation indices. Its simplicity and compatibility with web technologies make it easy to work with and read by both humans and machines.

Also known as

Geographic JSON, Shapefile

Relevance to OCSI

GeoJSON files are a filetype which can be used to bulk upload custom areas to Local Insight, as well as exporting boundaries from the platform.
